About Me

Artist Statement

As an artist, I believe art should inspire people and allow them to reflect on the natural beauty of our world, animals, and the environment. Drawing is an outlet for me to express this and allows me to produce fully developed art that reflects my love for life. I draw in a photorealistic style and like to focus on each element of an object to capture every piece of detail so that my drawings look sharper.

Drawing suits me because it's very controlled and the time required allows for extreme detail to be produced. I draw directly from pictures that I take because it’s more personal. I focus on compositions that tend to show a lot of movement but are only a snapshot as if the viewer only glimpsed at the object for a  second. I spend a lot of time and invest a great deal of emotion into each drawing, making them very meaningful. I want my audience to enjoy my works aesthetically but also understand the vision and meaning behind them.

Growing up, I began riding horses recreationally and graduated to eventually compete in local competitions and shows. This is where my passion for horses began. In my eyes, horses are the embodiment of grace and elegance. I became enamored with their movements and agility. This directly translated into my work. I started drawing horses and continued doing so for 7 years. I drew them in a photorealistic style but I like to overemphasize form and movement in a romanticized way so that my art conveys a sense of primitivism and reflects on simpler times. There is a sense of imperfection that can be balanced with romanticized drawings. I enjoy emphasizing these features in my drawings because it adds character and gives the viewer more to look at. Overall, my love for nature inspires my drawings and is intertwined through all of my work so that my viewers can also experience that same awe that I experience in each drawing.

I also enjoy oil painting. I began to go to local farms and stables to photograph horses so I could use them for references. It takes a great deal of patience as well as understanding of color theory and the media itself to be a successful painter. I enjoy doing these things on my free time and aspire to make this a full time career.

I am experienced in photography, drawing, painting, color theory, 2D and 3D design, figure drawing, plein air painting, graphic design, photoshop, digital drawing, and knowledgeable in art history.
